"Auf Wiedersehen in Winzig" follows the dramatic story of Rita Steinhard and her family who fled the Nazi regime before it was too late to leave Germany under the fascist regime. The story shows family’s escape over the Atlantic Ocean into a new life beginning in New York City and their challenges in the “brave new world”.
The narration also focusses on the people who were left behind in Nazi-Germany and after the end of the war - the expelled Germans from the former Eastern parts of Germany (Silesia) and the Polish population who was forced by the Russian Army to settle in the former German towns.
The multi-perspective approach and footage from public and private archives add to the touching and gripping character of these intertwined stories.
